Any transportation hub is by default the central point of any city. In case of Denver-capital of Colorado USA – it’s Denver Union Station, which is located at the edge of city. This station has listed as one of the best steel construction in 2015 by Structural steel industry owing to the part that major construction is done by steel. It opened in June 1, 1881 and the present day construction has taken place in 1914. In 2014, the Denver Union Station has gone through a major renovation resulted in the addition of a train hall, Crawford Hotel, several restaurants and shops. The historical significance related to Denver Union Station is that the structure and design has inferred from Beaux Arts of Paris. 

The main architects behind the latest renovation are Owings & Merrill LLP who had also played the role of structural Engineers. As this station has been redeveloped more than once, the architectural designs are also taken forward from old to new. One is the old construction and other one is new construction. The station consists of two lower wing buildings since the beginning. They are the major place for masses as they functioned as old offices and public services. The design of old station is way much inspired from Victorian Roman era. Windows are tall and narrow, square shaped stonework and motif of Columbine-state flower of Colorado. After the major fire accident of 1894, the front area of the building has merged with depot. 

Many of the rooms have changed as the guestroom of present day Crawford Hotel and several restaurants. The central part of the station is served as Great Hall which consists of Terrazzo floors and the width of hall has occupied by the wide tunnel vault. fThe central part was dedicated to Beaux Art style. After the renovation, the modification which took place in Union Station is the color of interior has changed from brown and tan to white. Terminal bar, shops and restaurants has replaced old ticket counters and offices. The Great Hall has dedicated its large part as Denver’s living room, Amtrak, hotel lobby, public place and lastly the shops.
