Dr Chau Chak Wing Building which has created a lot of buzz in architectural circles. It is a Business School of University of Technology Sydney situated in New South Wales of Sydney, Australia. It was designed by leading Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry who has worked for the first time in Australia. The
construction of Dr. Chau Chak Wing Building has started from the middle of
2012 and completed in 11th November
2014. The opening of school has taken place in 2nd February
2015. It has named after a Chinese-Australian businessman and Philanthropist- Dr. Chau Chak Wing- who has donated $20 million for the construction of building.
Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is based on the design of tree-house
structure which became very striking and distinctive so much so that Australia’s governor General Peter Cosgrove complimented it as “the most beautiful squashed brown paper bag”. Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is a
12 storey tower accommodates teaching rooms, learning rooms, research rooms and offices. The exterior displays the sandstone-coloured curving brickwork which was laid by hands. On the other hand, angular elevation facing west is constructed by shards of glass which provide the reflection of neighboring buildings in fractured form. There is a sculptural staircase made from polished stainless steel situated at the centre of main lobby. On the ground floor, café is placed opens at the street. The timber beams clad the two oval shaped classrooms. One of these classrooms accommodates the staircase made from Victorian ash wraps which leads to student lounge located on the floor above. Apart from these, school contains theatre for technology-supported interaction, classrooms for postgraduate students, parking space for
160 bicycle, lockers, showers and changing areas. Due to the unusual design and flexible usability, it has included in Sydney's architectural heritage.
