Jin Mao Tower is one of the tallest towers situated in Lujiazui, Pudong in Shanghai, China. Designed by Adrian Smith from leading Chicago Architectural Firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), is currently the 18th tallest building in world ranking. The construction has started from 1994 and completed in 1999. It used to be the tallest building of China until in 14, 2007, the highest position has passed to Shanghai World Financial Center located nearby to Jin Mao Tower. It possessed the architectural style of Neo-Futurism.

Jin Mao Tower is 420.5 meter high building consists of 88 floors above the ground and three floors below the ground. It accommodates offices, shopping malls and Grand Hyatt Shanghai hotel. The architectural design is based on traditional Chinese Architectural style named tiered pagoda which unveils as gradually stepping back leads to rhythmic pattern as it rises. The building holds a strong relation with number 8- correlates with prosperity in Chinese Culture. The 88 floors of building, divided to 16 segments results into the segments are 1/8th shorter than the 16 storey base. Jin Mao Tower has developed around octagon-shaped concrete shear wall core encircled by 8 exterior composite super columns and 8 exterior steel columns. These columns are connected to the core through three set of 8 two-story high outrigger trusses at six of the floors providing the additional support. The base of building is laid on 1,062 high-capacity steel piles fitted deeply in to the ground about 83.5 m low.
