Strikingly beautiful and pure are the only words which can elucidate Lotus Temple situated in New Delhi of India. It is a house of worship belongs to Baha’i- a young religion initiated by Bahá'u'lláh in 19th century Persia.  Baha’i has its house of worship all over the world. In Indian Subcontinent it is situated in New Delhi. It was designed by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba with structural designer Flint & Neill- a UK Firm. Before designing for Lotus temple, he observed Indian architecture an impressed from the design and symbols of Indian temples. He selected the Lotus because it represents purity, simplicity and freshness. The construction has completed in 13 November 1986 and opened in 24 December 1986

Lotus Temple is a house of worship designed in the shape half blooming lotus with diameter of 70 m. It is composed of free standing petals made of marble arranged in the cluster of three to nine sides. It can accommodate 2,500 people. There are nine doors which open at central hall. The main material in construction was white marble from Penteli Mountain in Greece.  Its main attraction is the entrance leaves, outer leaves, inner leaves, arch and interior dome. The entrance leaves are 18.2m wide with the height of 7.8m while the outer leaves are 15.4m wide with the height of 22.5m. Both the section goes above the podium. In the case of inner leaves, the wideness is 14m while the height is 34.3m. There are nine beautiful arches situated at the central hall with the angular interval of 40 degrees. These nine arches have taken the load of entire temple. Later on the arch conceive three ribs from the crown. The dome rib is directed towards the central hub while the base rib intersects with adjacent arch lead to an intricate pattern. Due to the distinctive pattern and eye-catching design, Lotus temple is the most visited place in the state partly for the reason that it never restrict any culture/religion and brings people together irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
